Good morning, fam!
Happy Thanksgiving for those that celebrate! I hope you got to enjoy some good food with good company during this long weekend. I know we did (more on that in a little bit).
While I walk off the extra pounds, check out this week’s recs.
Put on those sweatpants, plop open another can of cranberry sauce, and let’s get into it!
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
Since “strategy” is another one of those business buzzwords everyone uses but no one actually knows what it means, I read Playing to Win: How Strategy Really Works by Roger Martin. It’s one of the rare business books worth picking up and keeping for yourself.
If you’re a Rick and Morty fan (which you should be), you’ll also love Solar Opposites, another cartoon sitcom by Justin Roiland. Check out both shows on Hulu! (Not a sponsor…yet).
By now, you’ve probably heard of the shit show that is Elon Musk taking over Twitter. Things are so batshit crazy, people are hopping over to Hive Social, which I just downloaded. What’s the difference? Well, for starters, you can set a profile song. Ring any bells?
OK, let’s get into the Turkey Day fun. For our first Thanksgiving as married couple, Abby and I decided to do our own thing on the day of. For breakfast, we kicked things off with these gluten-free blueberry muffins from Krusteaz. You better believe I took a page out of Au Cheval’s book by cutting them in half and toasting both sides. (Chef’s kiss)
After breakfast, we went on a hike so we could earn what came next. We made a bunch of apps from Trader Joe’s for lunch, including bacon-wrapped dates with dairy-free feta cheese and turkey meatballs cooked in sweet and sour sauce.
But the main event was dinner when Abby made two Cornish hens baked with carrots, potatoes, and onions, which we we ate with sweet potato casserole and…wait for it…cranberry sauce in the can! Sorry, not sorry. I don’t care what the haters say - it truly is the best way to eat cranberry.
For dessert, we paired Trader Joe’s Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free Snickerdoodles with a homemade Cold Brew Old Fashioned (made with my personal favorite Monkey Shoulder because scotch makes everything better).
After dessert, we settled our tummies with some Amaro Nonino (the best amaro I’ve ever had) while we watched Gremlins and Christmas with You, two equally scary Christmas movies.
The New York Times shared their “100 Notable Books of 2022” which I’m still doing my best to work through.
If you’re in St. Louis for the holidays, come check out One Too Many’s “Merry Movie Madness!” Don’t worry - there’s a bar because as we all know, a cappella music is always better when you’re a little tipsy ;)
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
