Good morning, fam!
Anyone else still feeling sluggish after Thanksgiving? Just me?
I unplugged so hard over the long weekend, I think I forgot how to use Microsoft Teams.
While I relearn how to use the “Mute” button, check out this weeks recs.
Put on another holiday romcom, serve yourself up another slice of apple pie for breakfast, and let’s get into it!
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
I’ve already plugged my favorite podcast Off Menu before (thanks again, Paul!) but it’s worth sharing again after listening to their interview with Stanley Tucci. The man truly is a “global tresh” and bonus! His book Taste: My Life Through Food finally came out in paperback! I know what I’m reading over Christmas break :)
After some light browsing, I made Mo my next short lunchtime show. It’s funny, dramatic, and co-created by Mohammed Amer and Ramy Youssef, two hilarious comedians who share their experiences as young Muslim men in America.
Abby agreed to watch yet another feel-good holiday movie so we gave Spirited on Apple TV+ a shot and hot damn were we impressed! As long as you go into it knowing it’s a full-blown musical, then you might also be pleasantly surprised by the fact that Ryan Reynolds can actually sing.
This week, we had two movie nights to make up for Thanksgiving. First up was Black Adam and it’s exactly what you’d expect from a comic book movie starring the Rock. If you’re a fan of DC comics or anything The Rock does, then ignore the critics and check it out.
For the second movie, we didn’t have a ton of time after dinner so we opted for The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. Coming in at a tight 44 minutes, it was the perfect watch for any Marvel fan, especially if you’re also a fan of Kevin Bacon. Who isn’t?
Speaking of that dinner, we decided to fuck around and find out with a new place. Thanks to our friend Blake, we gave Hook and Reel a shot and my God was it glorious. Imagine if Applebee’s served nothing but buckets of seafood and pitchers of sangria. Our new friend Audrey even hooked us up with a marg and crab chips (think crabby pork rinds).
I’ve always said Thanksgiving leftovers would be my last meal, but this year I truly had the best Thanksgiving leftover sandwich my lips have ever touched. Abby got this insane cranberry oat sourdough bread from Union Loafers and I loaded it up with turkey, Miracle Whip, cranberry sauce in a can, sweet potato casserole and stuffing. I then preceded to pass out for a few hours on the couch. No joke, I probably had five of these over the course of the week. Yeah, it was that good.
Rolling Stone released “The 100 Greatest TV Theme Songs of All Time.” My question is how the hell is All That only at #92?! I definitely have some other thoughts, but I’ll let you make up your own mind.
Do you have any weird family holiday traditions?
Have you ever wondered how to write your first article online?
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
