Good morning, fam!
Nothing reminds you of your mortality like waking up in pain after carrying a bunch of boxes up eight flights of stairs. In other words, helping friends move is a young person’s game.
Enough of my bellyaching.
Unpack that Easy Bake Oven, tear open that Reptar Crunch, and let’s get into it!
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
Looking for a show that has sex, drugs, and rock and roll? Well, replace the last thing with investment banking in London and you have Industry on HBO. I just started season two and it’s even more cutthroat than the first.
Our weekly movie night pick was…meh. We watched The Informer on Netflix and we all agree - it wasn’t the best or worst movie we’ve ever seen. Hey, at least we all stayed awake for this one!
Remember that BYOSauce bday party I had last weekend? Well, my friends came to play and they weren’t messing around. Some of the most popular were Hot Honey Hennessy, homemade Taco Bell sauce, hot honey mustard, yellow curry, and a jalapeño ranchero sauce. It’s a good thing we had plenty of chicken strips from Southern for dunking.
Speaking of which, since one of my buddies who just moved to KC came drove down for the party, I returned the favor by helping him move into his new place. First stop? My favorite coffee shop: Thou Mayest in the River Market district. I had their cold brew made with these whiskey barrel-conditioned coffee beans and it was so good, I brought a bag home.
What was my treat for helping him move? We hit up Betty Rae’s right around the corner and he got me their dairy-free Cinnamon Crunch ice cream. Imagine dumping Cinnamon Toast Crunch into a frozen bowl of milk. Yeah, it was even better.
During my first night in KC, we met up with a friend who’s getting ready to release her second book (Hi, Mia!) and lucky for us, she had some early editions to buy. Pre-order She’s Nice Though online! Paul Rudd may or may not make a guest appearance :)
I went on a friend date last night and we went to Frazer’s (no relation) for the first time for dinner. The food was OK, but the cocktails were fire! I opted for the “Devil in a Blue Dress” - blueberry infused bourbon, cinnamon, vanilla, lavender, and lemon. 1000% would get it again.
After dinner, we ended the night with a nightcap at Brennan’s. I went with the ”Wake Me Up, F Me Up” - bourbon, cold brew, Demerara syrup, chocolate bitters, orange bitters. Maybe coffee at 9 PM wasn’t the best idea…
…until I came home to a dark apartment with candles everywhere. My wife and her friend were watching Bram Stoker’s Dracula which I had never seen. Biggest takeaway? It introduced the world to “vampire sex” as a genre long before True Blood existed.
“Learn how to code” is just about the worst advice you could give a non-technical person who wants to get into tech. Here’s some better advice instead.
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
