Good morning, fam!
A few friends and I decided to pop up to Chicago for the weekend to see James Acaster’s stand up show (and to stuff our faces with some great food).
Because I’m not a fortune teller, you’ll see most of this weekend’s recs in next week’s episode.
In the meantime, I’m going to go find some Gino’s East for breakfast because I’m an adult and I do what I want!
Dust off your Brio Mec set, unwrap your Uncrustables, and let’s get into it!
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
After a few work chats around strategy and other business-y stuff, I expensed some books and dove into The Design of Business by Roger Martin. It was written back in 2009, but it still holds up. Honestly, it’s the best explanation of my job I’ve ever seen in a book. If you’ve ever wanted to learn what the eff “design thinking” actually is, it’s definitely worth a read.
You know that sad, hopeless feeling you get after coming back from a vacation? Well, Abby and I finished our second run through of The Office and now it feels like something’s missing from our lives. It was that warm, familiar blanket we wrapped around ourselves every night during dinner. Wait a second…there are Superfan episodes?!
Like most millennials, I’m a big fan of brunch. Also like most millennials, I had no idea where it came from or how it evolved over the years. That is, until I read this.
What do you get when you mix food and furniture? These amazing Instagram posts.
Welp, it’s official. St. Louis just got a little more hipster. One of our biggest companies just purchased a…wait for it…professional Pickleball team?! That’s right! Now you can support American’s newest pastime by sipping on crappy beer!
A few weeks ago, I mentioned our company hosted their quarterly at a local theater and we watched Rocky Horror Picture Show. Looks like we were a little ahead of the curve. Apparently AMC is now hosting “Zoom Rooms” so coworkers can awkwardly stare at each other on a massive 30-foot screen. Good luck with that mute button, ya’ll.
Have you ever wondered how much news outlets would care if you went missing? Well, now you can find out!
Remember that handy, dandy design thinking process I mentioned? Well, I’m using it to revamp my Substack. If you’re interested at seeing how the sausage gets made, take a peek behind the curtain.
As I was cleaning out my work inbox, I remembered a piece I posted last year about the “10 Emails You Hate Getting.” Which one do you hate the most?
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
