Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good week.
After going to an alt/emo pop concert this week, I’m going back and listening to all the greatest hits from high school and feeling hella nostalgic.
While I look through my yearbook for the seventh time, check out this week’s recs.
Put on that heavy eyeliner, pop in that “Young Love 4 Eva” mixtape, and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
What concert did we go to? We saw The Band Camino this past Thursday and it was one of the best live shows I’ve been to in a while. I wasn’t too familiar with their music before but they are so freaking talented. If you’ve never heard them, check out my favorite song “Someone Who’s Trying.” (★★★★•)
Speaking of the concert, most of us went into not know the opening act but after watching Knox perform, I have to say he might be the best opener I’ve seen. Think Ed Sheeran meets Lauv but a little more emo pop. There’s a good chance you might’ve even heard his most popular song “Not The 1975.” (★★★★•)
While at the concert, I tried an Orange Dream CBD Seltzer from Mighty Kind and it was pretty damn tasty! Maybe it was because of the 100+ decibels of music for over two hours, but I didn’t really feel all that sleepy. Just a sore back because I’m an 80-year-old in a 35-year-old’s body. (★★★★•)
I read the The Art Thief by journalist Michael Finkel and it was stranger than fiction. It’s a true story about one of the most prolific art thieves in the entire world...and he didn't sell a single piece?! This will 1000% be a movie or limited series. (★★★••)
After NYT released their editors’ picks for The 100 Best Books of the 21st Century, they also released a readers’ version. After cross-referencing both lists (because I’m just a teeny bit Type A when it comes to books), I picked up Never Let Me Go, The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, and The Corrections. I’ve got some reading to do… (★★★★•)
During my pilgrimage to Comet Coffee, I tried their Cerro Azul Cgle Pourover from Knockbox, a roaster based in Hong Kong, and it was otherworldly. Tasting notes: Jasmine, Earl Grey, Yuzu, Muscat Grape, and Honey. Still getting used to talking like a #bougiebeanboi, but these felt pretty accurate. (★★★★★)
As a bonus, I also got one of their Sesame Tahini Cookies and I don’t think I’ve had a better gluten-free cookie in a looong time. Such a unique flavor and it really did pair well with the coffee. (★★★★•)
During a random night this week, I made an NA Espresso Martini using Beckett’s NA Coffee Liqueur, NA Coconut Rum, and a double shot of espresso. Good, but I think there’s something missing…I’ll report back. (★★★••)
Our friend (Hi, Caitlin!) introduced us to Skiddadles. Imagine if someone took a bunch of Skittles, exploded them via freeze drying, and then repackaged them for sale. Same great taste but with the texture of Whoppers. (★★★★•)
If you also get super snacky at night, you have to try these Banana Chocolate Peanut Butter Pops. They’re organic, plant-based, and have zero added sugar. I know, it sounds a little sus, but I promised they taste amazing. (★★★★•)
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
