Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good week.
It’s official spooky season at the Fralbers household which means we are stockpiling pumpkin spice like it’s TP during COVID.
While I Google “largest quantity of pumpkin spice you can order,” check out this week’s recs.
Bust out your flannel, scatter your pumpkin-shaped decorations, and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
Like everyone else and their mothers, we watched the debate with a few friends and it was refreshing to see someone behind the podium who isn’t a geriatric WASP. Most quotable moment? “I have concepts of a plan…” is what I tell Abby when it’s my night to cook. (★★★••)
‘Tis the season to finally start Gilmore Girls and I 1000% understand why everyone loves it. It’s smart, quippy, and who wouldn’t want that kind of relationship with their mom? I thought I made coffee part of my personality—Lorelai drinks more than all of the Friends characters combined. (★★★★★)
Abby and I saw Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and for a sequel, I thought it wasn’t that bad. Despite there being a lot going on (like three different villain-type characters), it does feel like a perfect balance of nostalgia mixed with some modern-day vibes. (★★★••)
For movie night, we watched Edge of Tomorrow which was somehow a first for me. That’s right, another Tom Cruise flick but this one’s different! He actually plays a coward-type who’s forced into futuristic battle which must be a first for the most capable man in Hollywood. It’s basically Groundhog Day meets Starship Troopers but with Emily Blunt playing a total badass. (★★★★•)
Not sure why, but Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions came free with Playstation Plus so Abby and I gave it a try. To be honest, we didn’t make it that far past learning how to play but it’s pretty neat that you can switch between the different positions in real time. I’ll dive in a little more and see if it’s worth continuing. (★★★••)
Hands down the best part of spooky season is the fall-themed snacks. First up were these Pumpkin Pie M&M’s and I was…underwhelmed. There wasn’t a ton of flavor to these which is a huge bummer. (★★•••)
On the other hand, Werther’s came out with these Caramel Apple Chews and they aren’t your grandpa’s Werther’s! They taste like Caramel Apple Pops which are easily the best of the best when it comes to fall-themed snacks. (★★★••)
Finally, I stumbled across Liquid Death’s seasonal Psycho Cider and it is damn good. It tastes exactly like you’d think: cider-flavored water. I’ll be picking up another pack next time I pop over to Schnucks. (★★★★•)
For some reason, lo-fi music feels very fall to me. I found this “Lo-Fi Chill Mix” on Spotify and have been putting it on repeat during the workday. How could you not dig it when it has this Interstellar lo-fi track?! (★★★★•)
Speaking of cozy fall vibes, can we all agree that running a bookstore in Scotland sounds freaking amazing?! Thanks to Airbnb, it might be easier than you think. (★★★★•)
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
