Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good week.
Anyone else wondering how December went from 0-60 real quick and one moment you’re recovering from a post-Turkey Day food coma and the next you’re wondering how the eff it’s already halfway through December and you still haven’t gotten Christmas gifts and you’re doing your best to keep your five Google Calendars straight and you promised yourself THIS was the year that you were going to send out those holiday cards with matching outfits and…
You know what?
I think this year’s theme is going to be “A Very Self-Care Christmas.”
While I find a candy cane-scented bath bomb, check out this week’s recs.
Breathe in, breathe out, and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
Onto season seven of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia! There’ve been some ups and downs, but my favorite episode this season was “Chardee MacDennis: The Game of Games” (episode seven) where the gang plays their own board game. Feels very “True American” from The New Girl. (★★★★•)
Abby and I saw The Boy and the Heron at Alamo and it’s exactly what you’d expect from Miyazaki. It’s a beautiful movie about loss and moving on but with some zany characters. Pro tip: See the dubbed version at some point and you’ll be blown away by Robert Pattinson’s voiceover as the Grey Heron. (★★★★•)
Another week, another comedically bad holiday movie. We watched The Princess Switch with Vanessa Hudgens and it’s so bad, it’s good. She pulls a Freaky Friday and plays two version of herself. How can you tell? Duh, one of them has a bad British accent. Don’t worry - there are two sequels and we will definitely be watching both of them. (★★★••)
After spinning out on five other recipes, I decided to make this Pork Stew in our pressure cooker this week for dinner. It turned out surprisingly good if I do say so myself and the best part? It’s gluten AND dairy-free! (★★★★•)
After checking out Garden Glow at the Botanical Gardens with some friends, Abby and I popped over to The Royale for dinner and I stumbled across the nectar of the gods: Guinness 0.0. That’s right - it’s Guinness without the booze. Never mind my gluten-intolerance and the tummy ache that followed. Totally worth it. (★★★★★)
I also tried a bottle of Good Twin NA Sparkling White Wine that I found at Whole Foods and it’s probably the best NA wine I’ve had yet. It actually tastes like, you guessed it, wine! I’ll definitely be poppin’ this for New Year’s Eve. (★★★★•)
Thanks to some leftover ClassPass credits, I blew off some steam this week at Fly Yoga and I’m still feeling the effects. I guess that’s what happens when you attempt to do yoga in your thirties... (★★★••)
According to the World Coffee Portal, China apparently now has more branded coffeeshops than the US. How is this possible?! We brand EVERYTHING!!! (★★★••)
These simple self-care habits for kids can be practiced by any human at any age. After all, we’re all just grown-up kids, right? (★★★★•)
It’s official! One Too Many’s sold out tomorrow’s holiday show “Snow Day Like Today” at Blue Strawberry but don’t worry - we’ll (hopefully) be sharing video in the near future.
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
