Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good week!
Well, another Super Bowl came and went and our Kansas City Swifts won in a somewhat confusing overtime!
We laughed, we cried, we watched Usher sweat more than any other human being has ever sweat and we did it in record numbers.
We also ate and drank ourselves silly.
While I continue to plow through our leftovers, check out this week’s recs.
Bust out that extra bag of chips, crack open that fourth jar of salsa, and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
Abby and I finished Mr. and Mrs. Smith on Amazon Prime and I honestly loved it. It’s a modern refresh of the 2005 movie starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie only this time around, Donald Glover co-writes, co-produces, and co-stars alongside Maya Erskine (from PEN15 fame). The finale even pulls dialogue and scenes from the movie. (★★★★•)
On the flip side, we saw Madame Web at Alamo for Valentine’s Day and it really isn’t as bad as everyone is saying…it’s WORSE! MUCH MUCH WORSE! I have no idea how this movie was green lit - the dialogue was godawful, the plot was repetitive, and the cast had zero chemistry. Please don’t bother even when it comes to streaming. (★••••)
For movie night, we gave Cat Person a watch and it was cringey through and through. It’s a romcom based on The New Yorker post from 2017 that fumbles headfirst into a thriller. The worst part is it features Cousin Greg from Succession as the creepy bad guy and if you ask me, his role hits a little too close to home.(★★•••)
It’s a miracle! After a few months, Local Harvest finally restocked Califia Farms Toasted Coconut Almond Milk! It’s the BEST non-dairy milk for cappuccinos. And cereal. And really anything that requires milk. (★★★★•)
OK, Super Bowl time baby! You already know the Deadpool 3 trailer was my vote for best commercial. After all it broke the record for “Most-Viewed Trailer in First 24 Hours” and showed how Ryan Reynolds is going to help save the MCU. July can’t come soon enough. (★★★★•)
Speaking of Deadpool 3, I’m not usually one for conspiracies but I think New Rockstars might be onto something with their video that explains how Deadpool 3, Taylor Swift, and the NFL rigged the Super Bowl. (★★★★•)
It’s official! After lowkey dropping a post on Instagram for Valentine’s Day, Marvel announced the Fantastic Four cast! We have Internet Zaddy Pedro Pascal as Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Stranger Thing’s Joseph Quinn as Human Torch, and The Bear’s Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing. (★★★★•)
Marvel made every millennial’s week by also sharing the first trailer for X-Men ‘97, their revival of X-Men: The Animated Series which wrapped in, you guessed it, 1997. With the X-Men making their way to the MCU, I can’t think of better timing to revisit our childhoods. Now if we could only get a Gargoyles revamp…(★★★★•)
When it came to our Super Bowl spread, there was one dish that made it’s mark on all of us. Our buddy Paul made these fudgy brownies from Reddit and I can say confidently say beyond a shadow of a doubt that these are the best brownies I have ever had. They are the best brownies anyone has ever had. These brownies will ripple throughout space and time and eventually end all pain and suffering in the universe. Did I mention they had INSTANT COFEE in them!!! (★★★★★)
If you’re in the neighborhood, come hang with Study Groop tomorrow morning at Quarrelsome Coffee starting around 9 AM. I’ll be working on a little somethin’ somethin’ that I’m announcing on March 1st ;)
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
