Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good week!
Mine was a little wonky thanks to getting sick after our nephew’s birthday party, but I guess that’s what I get for hanging out with a bunch of toddlers. Don’t worry! I double-verified that it wasn’t COVID because that’s still a thing.
While I continue to pop DayQuil, check out this week’s recs.
Tear open another box of tissues, warm up that chicken noodle soup, and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
I finally got around to watching Echo on Disney+ and I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a little grittier than Marvel’s other shows and shares the story of a deaf antihero with Native American heritage. Also, a few cool cameos worth the watch. (★★★••)
Thanks to a little nudging, I’m almost through Tokyo Vice Season 1 and my god is it good. It’s a crime noir series based on the true story of a young journalist from Missouri (heyoo!) becoming the first foreign journalist at a major Japanese newspaper in Tokyo and how he gets wrapped up with the Yakuza. Shout out to Mr. Baby Driver himself in the lead role! (★★★★•)
Abby and I finished Wheel of Time Season 2 and I have to say I was left feeling pretty meh. I wonder if each season is going to follow the same formula: scatter all of the characters + spend all season bringing them together = a big boss battle during the season finale. Good but not my favorite. (★★★••)
We finished Rick and Morty Season 7, the first season without Justin Roiland voicing Rick and Morty, and the new voices bugged us at first. Luckily, you kind of forget after a few episodes and can enjoy the fact we get to enjoy the return of Evil Morty. (★★★★•)
For movie night, we landed on J-Lo’s This Is Me…Now, her new hour-long music video that showcases her new album, and it was…interesting. If you’re judging it as a movie, then it’s just meh. But if you’re looking at it as a music video, then it’s actually pretty impressive. Two questions: Why all the CGI and how is Fat Joe qualified to play anyone’s therapist?! (★★★••)
We needed a palate cleanser after J-Lo, so I was finally introduced to a little cartoon called Bluey. Ever heard of it? Ya’ll, I’m a 35-year-old without kids and even I’m obsessed! It’s a wholesome cartoon about a family of Australian dogs but it’s, like, actually funny. Oh, and if you also think the theme song slaps, check out this Bluey LoFi playlist on Spotify. (Thanks, Bob!) I’ve been looping it all morning. (★★★★★)
If you’re looking for a movie snack, we added Reese’s Cluster Bites to SkinnyPop popcorn and it was the perfect combo of sweet and salty. Pro tip: Chop up the clusters so they’re the same size as the popcorn. (★★★★•)
While catching up with a friend at Quarrelsome, I finally tried their Espresso Tonic and hot damn was it good. I’ll probably wait until it gets warmer to have it again, but it’s gonna be the perfect summer drink. (★★★★•)
Have you ever wondered how to win the game of social media? (★★★★•)
Here are 100 small acts of love to either make you smile or cringe depending on if you’re into that kind of thing.(★★★★•)
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
