Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good week.
Now that you-know-what has been legal in Missouri for over a year, we can all publicly wish each other a happy 420!
Like most celebrations as a thirty-something, we spent ours from the comfort of our own home…on the couch…in sweatpants…with a dope charcuterie spread (more on that later).
While I refill our snack door, check out this week’s recs.
Grab a gummy, DoorDash some Taco Bell, and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
I read The Rabbit Hutch this past week and it was a beautifully-written showcase of quirky characters that takes places over the span of a week. Interesting story with a zany climax but the real star is the writing. (★★★••)
For movie night, we finally watched Anyone But You and as romcom connoisseurs, we were pleasantly surprised. Even though the acting was cringey and the writing was repetitive, it was still more fun than we thought to watch two insanely attractive people fall in love. Who would’ve thunk it?! (★★★••)
Abby and I saw Civil War at Alamo and all I have to say is, “Wow.” It’s a not-so-distant dystopian race against the clock as a group of military-embedded journalists capture a literal civil war. Definitely some hard scenes to watch but overall, it was a thought-provoking cautionary tale of what could happen if we continue to let politics divide us. (★★★★•)
On a much lighter note, Abby and I celebrated 420 by watching Wonka and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Ya boi Timmy T has the voice of an angel and the songs are actually good! Definitely worth a watch. (★★★★•)
Speaking of 420, we kicked things off with Chum Lite, which is basically LaCroix with THC and they were better than I thought. They also only have 3.5 mg so they’re perfect if you’re a noob like me. (★★★••)
I know chain sushi can be hit or miss, but we got a few rolls from 1 Stop Sushi Express and dear God did they hit. Abby randomly discovered this place a while back and it is now our go-to for cheap sushi. Try the Rainbow and Celebration rolls! (★★★★•)
For dessert? A snack charcuterie board fit for the gods! It included Peanut Butter M&Ms, Kettle Corn with these Thin Mint Bites from Costco, Nerds Gummy Clusters, and the pièce de résistance: these Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies from Matt’s Bakery mixed with these infamous Dark Chocolate Covered Mangoes. It’s safe to say we’re in bulk season. (★★★★•)
During movie night, we ran by Schnucks to get some snacks and ended up getting a few different Oreos. My favorite? Oreo Thins Tiramisu Creme?!? They are the perfect ratio of creme to cookie and have officially tied the Churro Creme from last week as top flavor. What will they think of next?! (★★★★★)
I’m always looking for kombucha that doesn’t taste like vinegar and cat pee and this Lavender Lemony Verbena from Companion fall squarely in that category. It’s light, citrusy, and on the tasty side of booch. (★★★★•)
For “Fumbling Forward Friday,” I shared how I found not one, but two editors for my book. Subscribe and read to find out how.
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
