Saturday Morning Cartoons #02
2 Fast, 2 Furious...ly trying to make this episode shorter than last week.
Good morning, fam!
Unlike most sequels, I’m hoping this second episode will be better than the first (Hey, at least it’s like 50% shorter). If you have no idea what I’m talking about, check out the first episode from last week and you’ll see exactly what I mean.
I can tell you’ve got a busy day ahead of you, so grab your blankie, get the Cap’n Crunch from on top of the fridge, and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
Anyone else a little too obsessed with work/life balance? Enter Make Time by Jake Knapp and John Zaterasky, the guys that started the Google Design Sprint and wrote Sprint - the reason why I have a job in tech.
My wife and I tore through Love, Death + Robots Volume 3 on Netflix. Each episode is an animated take on you guessed it: love, death, or robots.1 This one was by far our fav, but warning: definitely NSFW…unless you work from home. In that case, go ham!
Speaking of my better half, for her birthday, Abby wanted to see Downton Abbey: A New Era. As someone who has seen exactly zero episodes, all I can say is, “Smashing good time, innit!” It had British accents, beautiful buildings, and Professor McGonagall even popped up! Come to think of it, it was basically Harry Potter without the magic…starring the British elite...which might be redundant since Hogwarts is a private school…innit?2
I’m not proud to admit, but thanks to a late night craving and crazy FOMO, I caved and tried the Mexican Pizza from Taco Bell. Holy. Hell. It was better than it had any business being considering it’s the same five ingredients as everything else on the menu. You know it has to be good if Dolly Parton is making a musical about it.
Remember the Off Menu podcast I shared last week? Well, leave it to my friend Paul (Hi, Paul!) to sweeten the deal even more. He sent me The Off Menu Map, a website where you can find all of the restaurants they share on the podcast. I might be eating my way across London at the end of the month :)
Check out one of the coolest music videos3 I’ve seen in a looong time. Best part? It features Pharrell, 21 Savage, AND Tyler The Creator. Warning: I guarantee you’ll be unconsciously spitting the hook to your coworkers on your next Zoom call.
It wasn’t until I started writing I realized something: life gets easier the better you communicate. From telling a joke to convincing your boss to give you more money, here are some handy principles for better communication.
Maybe it’s just me, but at the ripe old age of 33, I can barely remember what I ate for breakfast4 which is why I downloaded Elevate and started doing some daily brain games (ew, sounds gross for some reason). Hey, any reason to waste less time on Twitter, amiright?
I got a little nostalgic this week, so I started replaying Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 + 2 for PS5. I dare you to listen to this song without thinking about kickflipping over lunch tables at a sprawling school that easily makes your high school look like one of those one-roomed schoolhouses in Little House on the Prairie.
Here’s a curious thought I had during one of my “morning conference calls” in the bathroom: if everyone is an influencer, then no one is an influencer.
You made it to the end! Here’s a little something for your time.5
Cheers,
Billy
Bonus: David Fincher (yes that David Fincher) co-created it.
Last one, I promise.
Remember those?!
Did I have breakfast today?
Worst idea for a podcast. Ever.
