Good morning, fam!
Like I mentioned last week, we spent the weekend in Indy on a company retreat and it has definitely been a slow recovery. This entire week has been me switching back and forth between an inhumane amount of coffee and Liquid IV.1
While I google “How much Liquid IV is too much?” check out this week’s recs.
Bring out the Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots, heat up some Murry's French Toast Sticks, and let’s get into it!
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
A cozy management game about dying? Don’t mind if I do! This is the description for Spiritfarer on PS5 and honestly, it’s spot on. This game is cozy as hell with an amazing art style, simple gameplay, and snarky character dialogue. You basically build a boat, explore the spirit world, and help ferry spirits to the afterlife. Cozy, amiright?
What do you get when you cast Kaley Cuoco and Pete Davidson in the same movie? I wish I could tell you. For this week’s movie night, we went with Meet Cute and I’m still trying to figure out what genre it was. Think 50 First Dates but wayyy darker. Also, I’m not sure if Pete’s BDE translates to rom-coms…
While in Indy, we literally ate and drank our way across the city. Our first stop was Parlor Public House for coffee and breakfast, which for me consisted of a gluten-free peanut butter chocolate chip cookie because I’m a goddamn adult and I do what I want. Their CF Coffee Company Fletcher Place Blend was so good, we brought a bag of beans home.
For lunch, we met a bunch of co-workers at The Garage (a food hall with pretty much any food you could ever want) and did a few laps. I opted for the arepa pabellón from Azucar Morena. It’s a Venezuelan staple with cheese, black beans, plantains, and shredded beef on a flat corn cake.
Next up, we popped across the street and stumbled across Pins Bars. It’s a massive two-story bar with mini bowling (harder than it sounds), pinball, bocce ball, giant beer pong, and a bunch of other games. They even had a cocktail that was basically made for me: the Ginger Spice. It’s bourbon, ginger beer, lime juice, smoked cinnamon bitter, and the pièce de résistance…a Caramel Apple Pop on top?!?! Yup. All of my favorite things in one glass.
After walking around some more, we decided to grab dinner at Livery, an amazing Latin American place near Lockerbie Square. While sipping on their smoky mezcal Paloma, I ordered the best pork belly tacos I’ve ever had. Seriously. I say, “BLANK is the best thing I’ve ever had!” a lot but this time, I’m 100% seriously serious.
After a very late Saturday night, we managed to wake up and stop by Milktooth for brunch on our way out of town. I got their ancient grains porridge with apple butter which was really good, but the star of this menu was the chipotle maple slab bacon. We’re talking thicc ass bacon that melts in your mouth.
We love our pups Dobby and Luna, but I’m not sure I could ever justify spending $75 each on tasting menu for them. Could you?2
This is why I love the internet. Where else could you make memes in real life?
I’ve been lucky enough to work in tech for over a decade now. In order to to pull back the curtain and make it easier for others, I think it’s important for people to share their own stories. Here's a timeline of mine.
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy

Of course it’s a restaurant in San Francisco. (eyeroll)
