Good morning, fam!
Who has two thumbs and was out wayyy too late singing karaoke last night?
This guy!
I guess this week, it’s Saturday Afternoon Cartoons considering it’s 2 PM and I’m still in my PJs.
As I get off the couch and throw my life together, check out this week’s recs.
Go get your Pokémon cards, pour up some Berry Berry Kix, and let’s get into it!
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
In prepping to make this newsletter even better, I picked up How to Make Work Not Suck by Carina Maggar. It’s a super quick read and a great book for anyone needing honest advice to level up your career. It’s also funny as hell!
We. Finally. Finished. House. Of. DRAGONS!!! Even after stumbling across some teeny spoilers online, it still ended pretty damn strong. Not sure how I felt about all the time jumps and incest-y stuff, but already looking forward to the second season (which Elizabeth Olsen won’t be a part of after all).
For movie night, we switched1 things up and played Super Mario Party on Switch. By no means is this anything new, but it’s definitely worth a play, especially in “Partner Party” mode. It’s basically co-op against the computer, or you can play 2 vs 2 with four people, which is exactly what we did. Bob and I eked out a win last-minute thanks to a FOUR STAR single turn. Sucks to suck, Jess and Katie :)
Last week, Abby and I hit up the Kimmswick Apple Butter Festival with some friends and we tore it up! Think a tiny rural town, but with a year-round Christmas gift shop called…wait for it…Christmas Haus!2 We walked around and got pretty much everything they had (except for apple butter, whoopsies!) My personal favorite was the order of Cap'n Crunch-dusted donuts I got. What more could you want from fried fare food?!3
During our friend’s Halloween party, I was introduced to my new favorite sauce/dip/jam. After a few drinks, we want ham4 on Terrapin Ridge Farm Hot Pepper Bacon Jam. I’ll definitely be picking up a jar (or five) for the holidays.
So, I’ve already shared Koval Cranberry Gin Liqueur a few episodes ago, but I recently made the single greatest decision of my life5 and mixed it with Trader Joe’s Spiced Cider. I know what I’ll be drinking on Thanksgiving…and Christmas…and pretty much every other holiday this year.
We ordered Recess canned drinks to be a teeny bit more mindful about drinking on weekday nights and so far, I’ve tried the Blackberry Chai and the Coconut Lime. I have to say I’m a fan. It’s basically LaCroix infused with hemp and adaptogens (whatever those are), so it helps wind down at night. If you pour it in a fancy glass and add some fruit, you’re basically tricking yourself into drinking a cocktail!
Have no idea what’s going on with all the Elon Musk/Twitter shenanigans? This video will help sum everything up.
As someone who has worked in tech for over a decade, I can’t stress enough how much it can change your life. Here's some of the best advice I can give for getting into tech without a knowing how to code.
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
See what I did there? Eh?! Validate meee!
It sounds like a sexy, holiday-themed German nightclub.
Say that 10 times fast.
Another one!
OK, maybe the second greatest - love you, Abby!
