Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good week.
I’m finally all-in on the Olympics just in time for the closing ceremonies tomorrow.
If you haven’t seen breakdancing yet, the men’s finals started 30 minutes ago, so you’re just in time.
While I do my stretches and limber up, check out this week’s recs.
Make up your b-boy or b-girl name, practice your freezes, and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
I finished rewatching New Girl Season 5 and it’s the comfort blanket we all need. I don’t care what anyone says—I’m still bullish on the fact that Nick, Schmidt, and Winston are the best depiction of male friendship in any show I’ve ever seen. (★★★★★)
Abby and I just finished House of the Dragon Season 2 without even realizing it because it was only eight episodes. Definitely a bit of a head-scratcher considering it felt like this season ended early so I guess we’ll have to wait another two years…(★★★••)
A few friends let me crash their date night and invited me to see Kneecap.1 I hadn’t heard of the movie beforehand but it was a pleasant surprise. It’s a biopic about a hip hop trio coming out of Belfast that raps in native Irish and leads a movement to save their mother tongue. It’s funny, stylistic and definitely worth seeing if it’s in a theater near you. (★★★★•)
After the movie, they sent me home with a Crunchie Bar, completing my cultural immersion for the evening and it was freaking amazing. It has a honeycomb toffee center which is…all you need to know. (★★★★•)
On a cold brew kick, I tried Nguyen Vietnamese Coffee for the first time and it’s definitely one of the more flavorful canned coffees. I drink it black which means I can’t speak to any of the flavors, but I have a feeling they’re just as tasty. (★★★••)
If you’re local and like karaoke, we went out to The Crack Fox last night and did Burlyeoke for the first time. What is it? Burlesque + karaoke = people stripping while you sing “Bring Me to Life” by Evanescence. Highly recommend if you’re not shy! (★★★★•)
This writer might not be a foodie, but she damn sure does have great taste in mayo.2 (★★★★•)
Speaking of food, do you like cooking? Do you like Pixar movies? (duh) If so, you’re gonna want to check out these recipes. (★★★★•)
Speaking of Pixar,3 they dropped some pretty sweet announcements at Disney’s D23 expo. Personally, I’m most pumped for Incredibles 3! (★★★★•)
If you’ve never seen Hot Ones on YouTube, check out this episode with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as they promote Deadpool and Wolverine while sweating their asses off. (★★★••)
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
Thanks Paulie and J-Lynn :)
