Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good week.
Abby and I (and the pups) decided to take off and have a long weekend in Chicago, which you will inevitably hear about next episode.
Since we’re taking a break in the hotel room right now, I figured I share some greatest hits from this past week.
While I enjoy these complementary robes, check out this week’s recs.
Go snag your own robe, slide on your comfiest slippers, and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
I finished reading another gut punch this week. At face value, Stoner is about a man from rural Missouri who falls in love with literature but it ends up being about a lot more: work, love, passion, failure, the list goes on. It also has one of the most moving endings of any book I've ever read. It’s not the most exciting read but it will definitely move you. (★★★••)
My friend and I started watching The Gentlemen on Netflix and it’s exactly what you’d expect from a Guy Ritchie show (director of the Sherlock Holmes movies). When an aristocrat inherits his family’s estate, he discovers it's home to a gigantic weed empire, which makes things…complicated. Action, dark humor, and Theo James (from White Lotus fame). What more do you need? (★★★★•)
For movie night, we threw it back and watched Two Weeks Notice with Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant. She plays a do-gooder environmental lawyer and he plays a narcissistic rich property developer who convinces her to work for him and then things, once again, get…complicated. Cute but not top-tier level. (★★★••)
Speaking of movie night, we went to Schnucks for an obligatory snack run and the winner was easily these Reese’s DiPPeD Animal Crackers. They combine the nostalgia of being a kid and possibly the best chocolate-based candy there is.1 (★★★★★)
After finally beating Black Myth: Wukong for PS5, I moved onto Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 and it feels like a perfect cross between Gears of War (anyone?) and Helldivers. It’s basically an alien hack-and-slash that you can play as one player or online with friends. (★★★★•)
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
Other than Toblerone, of course.
