Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good (short) week.
After a wonky week of sinus colds, we finally recovered just in time to make it to San Diego for a friend’s wedding, and then we’re off on a PCH drive up the coast!
We’re hitting here, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, the Redwoods, and finally ending in Portland.
While I figure out what San Diego really means,1 check out this week’s recs.
Throw on those shades, get ready to cruise, and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
UPDATES
Have you followed SNARK AVE yet? The sooner you do, the sooner I’ll start dropping actual merch.
Apparently, One Too Many’s new holiday album FIVE GOLDEN SINGS leaked online!? Give it a listen and then snag your tickets to the show to find out who did it!
LINKS
I just finished reading Orbital, a Booker Prize winner, and it is the definition of short and sweet. It’s a snapshot of one day in space for six astronauts working aboard a space station, and the writing is absolutely stunning. Do yourself a favor and read it over a weekend. (★★★★•)
Abby and I had a crazy Blackout Wednesday and…watched Airplane! at home because we were both still feeling a little sick and needed a good laugh. Definitely some iconic lines (“Don’t call me Shirley!”) and a goofy vibe throughout. If you like Mel Brooks's humor, you’ll love it. (★★★★•)
Curious about all the hype, I watched Hot Frosty on my own, and honestly, I liked it more than I thought. Thanks to the comedic relief of Craig Robinson (The Office) and Joe Lo Truglio (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), it was at least better than last week’s Irish Wish, which was hot garbage. Check it out, especially if you’re a fan of Ted from Schitt’s Creek. (★★★••)
Since we were sick and prepping for this trip over Turkey Day, we hunkered down and had ourselves a good ‘ol fashioned TJanksgiving. Not familiar? Just go to Trader Joe’s and pick up some finger foods to pop in the oven. We got a few, but my favorites were these Empanadas de Ropa Vieja. They’re shredded beef turnovers in cassava crust, which means they’re gluten-free AND dairy-free. Pro tip: Dip them in this spicy Whole30 Chamoy sauce. (★★★★•)
Thanks to my therapist’s recommendation, I picked up this Speks Fidget, and it has been life-changing. As someone with OCD, I struggle with mindless habits like picking and biting nails, but this has helped short-circuit those urges. It’s basically metallic silly putty. (★★★★★)
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
