Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good week.
Mine was a little bittersweet, but you’ll have to read on to find out why.
Let’s just say I said goodbye to an old friend, and now “the quarrel is done.”1
While I go Google “How much time is appropriate to grieve over one of your favorite coffeeshops closing?” check out this week’s recs.
Find a black t-shirt,2 fly it at half-mast, and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:

Growing up, I was obsessed with King Arthur, so you know I had to read The Bright Sword from Lev Grossman. It’s about a young knight who arrives at Camelot to compete for a spot on the Round Table, only to find he's too late and Arthur is gone. Now, it’s up to him and the misfits left to save Camelot. I liked how the book jumps back and forth between the main plot and character backstories, but it could’ve done without a few chapters. If you love fantasy, you’ll really dig this book. (★★★••)
As a HUGE Batman fan, I’ve really enjoyed how Harley Quinn takes the source material from the comics and then gives it a modern, adult animation twist. It’s hilarious, irreverent, and very timely. Season 4 (which I just finished) is still really funny but lacks a little of the group dynamic from the first few seasons. We’ll see if Season 5 gets the band back together. (★★★••)
You’ve obviously heard Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso,” but have you heard the remix? After hearing about it on the newest episode of Keep It!, I immediately went to Spotify and played the “Mark Ronson x FNZ Working Later Remix”…and haven’t stopped since. It. Seriously. Slaps. I defy you to play it and not dance around your kitchen like club kid on Molly.3 (★★★★•)
Abby and I DoorDashed takeout from Chiang Mai, and I got their Gaeng Hung Lay (Braised Curry Pork, Garlic, Ginger, and Steamed Rice). Dear God, it was good, but I have to say today’s lunch leftovers were even better after it had a little time to marinate. If you get this and don’t like it, I will personally reimburse you.4 (★★★★•)
You never really appreciate something until it’s gone. After only a few years in business, Quarrelsome Coffee (which you’ve inevitably heard me gush over) closed. I ended up going last Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and even picked up a sweatshirt as a memento. They were known for their uniquely fermented coffees and their vibey interior. Pour one out, ya’ll. (★★★★★)
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
I know, I know. “What’s with the cryptic schtick?”
Which shouldn’t be hard for me — they’re my entire wardrobe.
Which I wouldn’t know anything about because I was a D.A.R.E. kid.
He said jokingly.
Loved it
