Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good workweek.
This one’s going out a little earlier than usual considering it’s one of the biggest days of the year for St. Louis and I’m already on the way to our friend’s house party.
That’s right - for those of you who don’t know, today is STL’s Mardi Gras party in Soulard and it is the second-largest Mardi Gras celebration in the world.
While I take another Jell-O and prepare myself for the shit-storm that is Soulard, feel free to check out this week’s recs.
Get those beads out, cut that King Cake, and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
I can’t think of a better feeling than reading the right book at the right time. I recently finished How to Begin: Start Doing Something That Matters and used it to vet two projects I’ve been sitting on for a while. Thanks to this super actionable framework, I’m going full-steam ahead on both (but more on that later).
Thomas (one of my best friends and fellow comic nerds) recommended Something is Killing the Children and after reading through the first four chapters, I’m hooked. Think Stranger Things meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Abby and I were looking for our next romcom and decided on Your Place or Mine starring Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher. How the eff do these two still look this good?! It’s a cute story but almost too predictable.1
Since Abby and I do what we want, we celebrated Valentine’s Day a day later at Bistro La Floraison, a new French bistro in STL. I kicked things off with a Blood & Sand made with Monkey Shoulder scotch and Abby went with their Poire Martini.
For dinner, we got a few small plates and few entrées, but the Duck Liver Tart was easily the best part of the night. It was so rich and savory, it probably should’ve been our dessert.
During a Total Wine stop to prep for this weekend, I stumbled across Hard Mountain Dew Baja Blast. As someone who has been adding tequila to Baja Blast for years, I couldn’t say no. I’ll report back if I make it through today.
Ever consider looking for a job in another industry. If you’re not sure where to start, this site can help you answer, “Where Else Can I Work?”
Have any Gen-Z co-workers? You might want to read this before sending them another emoji-packed Slack message ;)
New help communicating better at work? I’ve got you covered in this week’s “Career Advice That Doesn’t Suck!”
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
Yes, even for a romcom.
