Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good workweek.
Well, it’s miracle. We all made it through Mardi Gras unscathed. Abby and I even made it home by 2 PM to jump back into Hogwarts Legacy. I could get used to being in bed by 9 PM…
While I pick up some orthopedic shoes and separate my Ibuprofen into one of those daily pill organizers, feel free to check out this week’s recs.
Re-up your AARP membership, pour up the Metamucil, and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
I finished The Creative Act: A Way of Being by Rick Rubin at a bar last night1 and it was an interesting take on art, the life of an artist, and basically any creative endeavor you want to start. If you have no idea who Rick Rubin is, check out season two episode nine of DAVE and you’ll get a pretty good idea.
After I got back, we randomly decided to start Physical: 100 and holy hell - I’ve never seen so many ripped people in one place. It’s a Korean reality show that’s basically American Gladiator meets Squid Game with 100 people competing for the equivalent of $2.2 million. Does anyone have an in with The Rock so he can start an American version?
After tearing through the first volume, I picked up Something is Killing the Children Volume 2 and I couldn’t put it down. It’s so good, I guess I’ll go ahead and pick up the other volumes. If you get squeamish easily, this might not be the comic for you…
Last Sunday, we finally went to Alamo Drafthouse and saw Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Not the best Marvel movie, but it kicked off Phase 5 with action, comedy, and a shitload of CGI. It’s basically a two-hour version of the cantina scene from Star Wars, but with superheroes.
Before the movie, we had a drink at their bar and I went with the Stay Classy San Diego which featured Monkey Shoulder2 with ginger and honey syrups. If you get it, don’t forget to ask them to make it “extra classy.” You’ll thank me later ;)
For our Thursday movie night, we took it wayyy back and watched The Butterfly Effect and I have to hand it to Ashton Kutcher - he wasn’t nearly as bad as I remembered. Pro tip: the director’s cut ending is probably the weirdest ending ever made for any movie. Ever.
Pour one out for one of the best shows on TV. The creator of Succession just announced that the upcoming season four will be the last. Pardon me while I go step outside and scream into the void.
Not sure how to prep when it comes to asking for a promotion? I’ve got you covered.
I spend A LOT of time in coffee shops. Here are some of the people you meet.
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
Friday nights are now for books and booze.
By far my favorite everyday Scotch.
