Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good week.
I don’t know about you, but this week has been a little bit of a doozy.
Abby and I have finally joined all the other thirty-something millennials looking their first homes and it’s bonkers out here.
Despite me overthinking everything, we did submit our first official offer!1
While I wrap my head around interest rates, earnest payments, and escalation clauses, check out this week’s recs.
Take a break from Zillow, close your “dream home” Pinterest board, and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
I know I already gushed about it last week, but Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was so good, I re-watched the first at home and then saw it again, this time at Alamo Drafthouse. I snagged the Alamo Season Pass (Thanks for the rec, Chris!) which means I will 100% be seeing it a third time.
Thanks to the Season Pass, I also saw The Flash at Alamo with my friend Bob. I enjoyed a few cool scenes and nostalgic cameos, but over all, I wish they would’ve stuck to the original Flashpoint plot from the comics. I could not be more ready for James Gunn to clean house and revamp DC Studios.
Playstation Plus strikes again! As part of my subscription, I downloaded Deliver Us the Moon for free and gave it a (moon) shot.2 As an astronaut on a solo mission, you’re goal is to save an apocalyptic Earth by uncovering mysteries on the moon. You’re basically Matt Damon in The Martian…but on the moon…and without the poop potatoes…and you’re not Matt Damon.
For Abby’s birthday, we took our second trip to Bar Moro and had another amazing night.3 We started with cocktails, tin mussels, and a few small plates but the main event was THE. BEST. LAMB. I’VE. EVER. HAD!! We’re two for two on incredible entrees here. We finally topped things off with Basque-style cheesecake and fortified wine. If you’re into #foodporn, you can check out the full recap on Insta.
Like everyone else my age, I average like 7 cups of coffee each day. In an attempt to chip away at this and be better than everyone else, we gave MUD\WATR a try. Think coffee, but with a fraction of the caffeine and 100% more cacao, herbs, and mushrooms. It’s hippy coffee with an iffy name.
After a looong Thursday, I met up with some friends at Narwhal’s and ordered a flight of three mini frozen cocktails. The only one worth mentioning was the Blueberry Lavender Aviation - it tasted like lavender perfume, but in a very good way. It’ll definitely be my go-to this summer.
Into nerdy workplace reports like me? While doing some research for a book concept I’m working on, I stumbled across Gallup’s “State of the Global Workplace: 2023 Report.” Here’s an interesting tidbit that is in now way surprising: The majority of the world's employees are quiet quitting.
Have a friend you want to bug? What if you could send “surprise alarms” to their phone?
As someone who is slowly recovering from “workism,” this interview really resonated with me.
For this week’s Funny Business post, the hint is: This “buds” for you.
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
And I just found out we were out-bid while writing this. 🙃
I can feel you cringe from here.
Pro tip: If you don’t mind getting cozy, sit at the bar so you can chat with the chefs.
