Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good week.
You know who hasn’t had a good week? Billionaires.
After we finally got a not-so-happy ending1 to the Titanic submarine news story, another insane story broke: Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg may actually be facing off in a real-life cage match.
While I try not to think about this future hellscape we’re currently living in, check out this week’s recs.
Delete Twitter, log out of Facebook, and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
I’m just about finished reading The Idiot from Elif Batuman and I have to say it’s one one of the funniest books I’ve read, but like in a very dry humor sort of way. It’s about first love, the uncertainty of adulthood, and navigating using email for the first time.2
Whenever a new Marvel series drops on Disney+, you know I’ll be watching it. This week, we watched the first episode of Secret Invasion and it’s basically a mix between Mission Impossible and, well, a Marvel movie. Did anyone else see the twist coming at the end?!
It was another movie-heavy week thanks once again to the good people behind the Alamo Season Pass. Me and my friend Jess saw Elemental and honestly, I enjoyed it way more than I thought after hearing a few “meh” reviews. My only critique is that for a Pixar movie, there was a lot happening which makes it hard to tell who the movie was made for.3
For my second movie outing, four of us saw Past Lives yesterday after work and I did not expect to bawl my eyes out during and after the movie. It’s about love, destiny, and so many other beautifully complicated things. It’s from A24, so you know it’s good.
Thanks to a huge sale, I picked up Max Payne for PS5. Ok, so technically it’s the PS2 version, but it’s available to play on newer consoles. For those who’ve never heard of it, this game revolutionized “bullet time”- you know, the thing from The Matrix? It’s dark, gritty, and it’s still just as much fun diving in slo-mo around corners and shooting low res bad guys.
In a moment of weakness, I picked up Taco Bell for our movie night and whatever I got for dinner was forgettable because the main event here was the dessert. You may think their Cinnamon Twists taste like sweet styrofoam (they don’t!), but you can’t deny how utterly amazing their Cinnabon Delights are. They’re basically Murry’s French Toast Sticks rolled up into balls and filled with icing.
STL City just teased a new jersey coming soon and it’s a collab with Adidas and…Marvel?!? Take all my monnnnneeeeyy!
What one piece of culture captures the true America spirit? The New York Times asked 17 columnists and here’s what they said.
Did you know there’s a name for the smaller shopping carts at grocery stores?! I feel targeted…
For this week’s Funny Business post, the hint is: The Starbucks of gas stations.
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
Depending on who you ask.

You were 100% right, Chris 😉
