Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good week.
It’s been a whirlwind of barbies, atomic bombs, and rebrands
After seeing both box office hits and watching a billionaire ruin the internet, I’m thinking it might be a good time to unplug and go chill in a cabin in the woods.1
While I look up how much an RV costs, check out this week’s recs.
Snag yourself a survival kit, hit up your five closest friends, and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
OK, I’ll be the first to admit - we didn’t partake in the Barbenheimer craze. After seeing Barbie last week in KC, we saw Oppenheimer Sunday evening (at Alamo of course) and I’m shocked to say it’s probably my third favorite Nolan film.2 Due to a huge chunk of the moving being extreme closeups, Cillian Murphy will hands down be winning all the awards this year. (★★★★•)
Thanks to Abby’s undying love for The Last Podcast on the Left, we listened to their six part series on The Manhattan Project to prep for Oppenheimer driving to and from KC. Aside from some pretty gruesome details in Part 5, I can’t think of a better historical breakdown I’ve heard. 1000% recommend, especially if you know nothing about the Manhattan Project. (★★★★★)
Speaking of weapons of mass destruction, we choose Transformers: Rise of the Beasts for our first movie night back in a month. Honestly? One of the better Transformers movies despite Pete Davidson voicing one of the robots. It was also nostalgic AF thanks to the Beast Machines!3 (★★★••)
We blew through the final season of Barry and I hate to say I don’t think it lived up to the hype. Pros: Bill Hader created an amazingly dark satire on Hollywood, Sarah Goldberg deserves all the Emmys, and NoHo Hank might possibly be the single greatest character in the history of television. Cons: I feel like (SPOILER ALERT) anytime there are two time jumps in a season4, it seems like a crutch. Still totally worth finishing though! (★★★••)
Thanks to another amazing PlayStation Plus deal, I downloaded the rebooted Tomb Raider Survival trilogy for free and blew through the first game. The story was meh (you’re trapped on the same island the entire game), but the controls and game mechanics were next level, even for a game that dropped in 2013. Not the worst game, not the best. (★★•••)
While hanging at our friends’ place, I continued my sober streak with Leitz Eins Zwei Zero N/A Chardonnay. In terms of zero proof booze, it’s definitely some of the best I’ve had yet. Think kombucha, but less intense. I’ll definitely have a few bottles on standby from now on. (★★★★•)
Welp, Elon finally did it. In a haphazard shitshow of a rollout, he rebranded Twitter to X and the internet is not happy (especially #DesignTwitter). Does this mean tweeting is now txting?5 (★••••)
So apparently UFOs do exist?!6 At least according to a former Air Force intelligence officer (under oath) they do. Do you buy it? (★★•••)
If you’re like me, then you’re also a fan of extra salty takes on TikTok. Check out some of these from Chef Reactions. (★★★••)
After dusting off some old drafts, I published a short piece called, “What You’re Favorite Food Says About You” on Medium. According to the post, “I’m everyone’s favorite even though I’m not that good for them.” Yep, that sounds about right 😂 (★★★★•)
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
If only…
Behind The Dark Knight and Inception of course.
Beast Wars anyone?
House of the Dragon anyone?
I’ll see myself out.
Sorry, UAPs (Unidentified Aerial Phenomena)
