Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good week.
After an insane summer of looking for a home, we finally had an offer accepted!!1
And now begins the whirlwind of inspections, paperwork, and negotiations.2
While I figure out how to negotiate like Harvey and Mike, check out this week’s recs.
Pause Suits, Google “WTF is real estate law?”, and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
It was another double-whammy week at Alamo. First up was a guys’ night out to see Grand Turismo. I gotta hand it to Sony - they took an unbelievable story, added some cool video game elements, and managed to cast Orlando Bloom as a lovable douche. (★★★••)
Next up was a solo outing to see Blue Beetle. Despite mixed reviews, I wanted to see the first movie of the new DCU for myself. Not only did Xolo Maridueña nail the lead role, each member of the Latino-led cast of characters made their mark. (★★★★•)
By now, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I tore through season four of Suits. Things feel much better after a certain character came back and Donna’s up to no good, per usual. Just start watching it already. (★★★★•)
I’m pretty sure I’ve already shared Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend here but after listening to this episode with Steve Martin and Martin Short, I had to bring it up again. There’s nothing better than three comedy legends giving each other shit for an hour. (★★★★•)
While out for a friend’s bday, I ordered Topo Chico with lime. I know, this isn’t anything groundbreaking, but it’s super underrated and wayyy better than your average club soda and lime. (★★★★•)
Speaking of sober-friendly drinks, we made a pilgrimage to Trader Joe’s where I picked up Reed’s Zero Sugar Ginger Beer. It might be the tastiest ginger beer out there and it doesn’t have a metric crap-ton of sugar. Pro tip: for a dope mocktail, add some Trader Joe’s Pineapple Juice and a lime. (★★★★•)
After more than a decade of procrastinating, I finally got my first tattoo! Here’s why I went with a Spider-Man tat. Thanks again, Manny! (★★★★★)
Speaking of negotiating up top, I stumbled across this video of a Harvard business professor analyzing negotiation scenes from famous TV and movies. Spoiler alert: Viola Davis could negotiate her way into the presidency and I wouldn’t be surprised. (★★★••)
My friend Eri is an amazing ceramicist who focuses on body positivity and she just released her new piece “Deversitile.” Check her out on Instagram and pick up something from her online shop. (★★★★•)
If you’re in St. Louis on September 17, come check out One Too Many’s “Back to School” show. Let’s just say it’ll be a blast from the past ;) (★★★★•)
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
I still can’t believe I might be allowed to own a home…
It’s a good thing I’ve been watching an insane amount of Suits.
