Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good week.
It looks like St. Louis has finally realized summer is over and decided to bless us with some highs in the mid-70s.
I haven’t been in school since 2011, but I’m getting strong “back-to-school” vibez. (Speaking of which, check out #10 below.)
While I switch my coffee order from iced over to hot, check out this week’s recs.
Bust out that new backpack, fill it with those Lisa Frank folders and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
I just finished an unsettling book translated from its original Japanese called The Factory. It’s a short story about three factory workers each with different jobs who start to blur the lines between work and life. (★★★••)
I doubled up on short reads this week and also read Dept. of Speculation, a beautifully-written love story that shares a very real look at marriage and what it takes to make a relationship work. (★★★★•)
Abby and I saw Bottoms at Alamo and it was like watching a real life cartoon. It was funny, raunchy, and had a great message about female empowerment. On top of that, Ayo Edebiri absolutely nailed the lead role! (★★★••)
For movie night, we went with another Tom Cruise throwback and watched Cocktail. Hate the name, loved the movie. Who could resist a twenty-something TC hot dogging behind a bar?! (★★★★•)
I started playing Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered and it immediately took me back to college. Not only can you race and unlock dope cars, you can also flip the script and race as a cop who’s trying to bust racers. (★★★★•)
Even though summer’s over, I had to pick up a can of Stumptown Nitro Cold Brew. Some of the best canned cold brew out there. (★★★★•)
Anyone else having trouble winding down before bed? Thanks to Abby’s voice of reason, I tried adding this Calm Magnesium Powder to Topo Chico Lime. I think it’s working so far considering I’ve been passing out by 10 PM every night. (★★★••)
I’ve been feeling a little more snacky than usual, so I tried these Paleo Prime Choice Banana Cooke Bites from Whole Foods. I promise, they taste better than they sound. (★★★••)
On the other hand, these Lily Dark Chocolate Caramel bites are straight fire AND they have zero added sugar. Pro tip: If you can, pair them with a double espresso shot for a bougie treat. (★★★★★)
Did I mention One Too Many’s “Back to School” show is coming up in a week?1 (★★★★•)
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
Yes, yes I did.
