Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good week.
For the first time in a long time, I decided to take a week off from work and boy did it make a HUGE difference.
I was able to take a deep breath, catch up on some writing, and I even put together two IKEA bookshelves, which I then filled with actual books!1
While I relearn how to use Microsoft Teams for work next week, check out this week’s recs.
Log back into Teams, get yourself camera-ready, and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
I finally read through How to Be Perfect and I have to say it’s exactly what you would expect from Michael Schur. You may not know his name, but you 100% know his work: The Office, Parks and Rec, The Good Place, etc. If you’re even a tiny curious about ethics, this is a must-read. (★★★★•)
I’m back on my Suits bullshit this week which means I finished season seven. One word to describe this season? Bittersweet. After saying goodbye to three characters, I don’t know what could possibly be in store for the final two seasons.(★★★••)
Abby and I embraced ”Spooky Fall Season” and watched Practical Magic (my first time). I have to say, I liked it wayyy more than I thought and young Sandra Bullock brings her A-game. (★★★••)
For our weekly movie night, we randomly chose Beautiful Disaster and the title perfectly describes this movie. The producers basically asked, “What if we cast Dylan Sprouse2 as a college bad boy who falls in love with a poker prodigy?” Yeah, it’s as nonsensical as it sounds. (★★•••)
Seeing this ad for Betty Buzz after watching Practical Magic must have been fate, so I finally decided to try their Sparkling Grapefruit Soda. Pro tip: Mix it with Topo Chico Lime and you won’t be sorry. (★★★••)
Remember those bookshelves I mentioned earlier? They were these Brimnes bookcases in black3 and I couldn’t recommend them enough. If you do go with them, holla at ya boi - I could probably build one in 30 minutes flat at this point. (★★★★•)
Have you checked out The Hollywood Reporter’s “50 Best Shows of the 21st Century”? I might have to bump their #1 to the top of my list. (★★★••)
Every family has secrets. I just wish mine were as cool as these “Confessions of a Pop-Tarts Taste Tester.” (★★★••)
Last month, I celebrated my five-year anniversary working at Slalom and I decided to share some thoughts/lessons on Medium. (★★★★•)
Exactly three months ago, I stopped drinking and wrote down some thoughts. Three months later, I decided to share them because they might help someone else. (★★★★★)
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
In alphabetical order by author, of course.
Yes, the Dylan Sprouse from The Suite Life and Zack and Cody.
Say that five times fast.
