Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good week.
It was my first week back from PTO and I have to say I was ready to get back to work. After all, you can only put together so many pieces from IKEA without losing your mind.
Speaking of losing your mind, happy spooky season! Since I’m a big ‘ol baby, Abby took pity and watched a different kind of spooky movie with me (more on that in a sec).
While I try to find other scary movies that won’t make me pee my pants, check out this week’s recs.
Grab some kettle corn, get your cozy blanket, and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
I read The Outsiders and now I finally know where, "Stay gold, Ponyboy" comes from!1 It's short, insightful, and has a great message…which apparently everyone learned in like 7th grade. I knew I was behind the curve… (★★★••)
Speaking of The Outsiders, we decided to lean more into young Tom Cruise and watched the 1983 movie for movie night. It’s basically page-to-screen adaptation featuring a bunch of young hunks including Rob Lowe, Ralph Macchio, Patrick Swayze, and yes, Tom Cruise (who is somehow the least hunky of the bunch). (★★★••)
Welp, another week and yet another season of Suits down (Season 8 to be exact). It’s the last one on Netflix which means you have the watch the final season on Amazon Prime (and they bleep out all of the spicy language). It’s not the same but Katherine Heigl does bring a certain je ne sais quoi to the cast. (★★★★•)
Like I mentioned, Abby and I celebrated spooky season by doing what any couple in their thirties would do: we watched Twilight. Maybe it’s seeing it as a woke adult, but the whole movie is nothing but a bunch of guys gaslighting Bella into thinking she’s crazy. That is, except for Jacob.2 (★★★••)
We obviously decided to throw on New Moon the next night and holy traps, Batman! Taylor Lautner goes through a Marvel-esque beef up and gives Bella what she needs: a guy who will actually be honest with her. We all know how this turns out, but a guy can dream, can’t he? (★★★••)
Tis the season for fall dranks! I looked up seasonal mocktails online and found this Apple Ginger Fizz, and then I made it even easier by sticking to Apple cider, ginger beer, cinnamon, and lime juice. I’ve probably consumed more of this than water over the past week. (★★★★•)
I’m always looking for gluten-free, dairy-free snack bars that don’t suck and Kate’s Real Food Lemon Coconut bar definitely falls into the “non-suck” category. In fact, it might be one of the best I’ve had. (★★★★•)
After neglecting my laptop and phone screens, I finally tried this Whoosh! spray and I’m happy to say, they look good as new. Now if they only made it for car windshields… (★★★••)
When was the last time you were in a Barnes & Noble? Well, it sounds like you might not recognize it thanks to their new interior design direction moving forward. (★★★••)
A few months ago, I got the best birthday present I could've ever asked for: I became a people leader at Slalom. I’ve already learned so much and wanted to share “The Most Important Question in Leadership.” (★★★★★)
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
Thanks, Jess!
