Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good week.
Who’s ready for the most wonderful time of the year?!
And no, I’m not talking about talking about the holidays - IT’S DEAD WEEK! You know, the week where Corporate America shuts down and everyone reverts back to their basest, most carnal versions of themselves as they do all of the things their New Year’s resolutions won’t let them do? It’s basically one week-long hangover, even if you don’t drink.
While I change from one set of PJ’s to another, check out this week’s recs.
Pause that series you’re bingeing, go wipe yourself down with a Clorox wipe, and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
By now, it’s a safe bet that this first bullet will be a new season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. This past week was season eight and the season finale was probably my fave (Reynolds vs. Reynolds: The Cereal Defense) (★★★★•)
Thanks to some nudging from our friends Chris and Grace, Abby and I finally watched Klaus on Netflix and we…fell asleep. This has absolutely nothing to do with the movie - we were just wiped out after a crazy week. The first half we did see we thought was super cute and we totally plan on finishing it…hopefully. (★★★★•)
It’s a Christmas miracle! What If…? is finally back on Disney+ for its second season and they’re releasing a new episode each night for nine nights! I watched the first episode (“What If…Nebula Joined the Nova Corps?”) and was already blown away with how they can tell an entire story within 30 mins?! (★★★★•)
A buddy recommended The Finals on PS5 and I gave it a shot. It’s a free, online video game that is basically a mix between Fortnite and Call of Duty, but you can destroy anything and everything. It’s fun, but you’ll have to put in some serious hours if you don’t want to get pwned by a bunch of eighth graders. (★★★••)
I’m writing this from Quarrelsome Coffee and I just tried their Ivan Solis Costa Rican pour over for the first time. I’m getting hints of…graham cracker? That’s a thing, right? (★★★★•)
While a bunch of us were out celebrating after our holiday show, I tried Non-Alcoholic Grüvi Dry Secco Wine and I keep getting blown away by these NA options. They’re getting closer and closer to tasting like actual wine. Definitely try this one if you’re sober curious. (★★★★•)
After a year in the making, Kenny’s Upstairs is finally open! Kenny Marks, an amazing bartender at Indo (and our wedding), opened his cocktail bar last week and a few of us went to check it out. I got his “Before the Dawn” (NA Amaro, lemon, hibiscus, cinnamon, and foamer) and it was probably the best NA cocktail I’ve had over the past six moths. We even got to watch Home Alone on a TV/VCR combo! Don’t worry, we followed the first rule of the 90’s.1 (★★★★•)
We had a few friends over and Chris, that beautiful bastard, introduced me to the single greatest snack I’ve had in recent memory: Kirkland Signature Dark Chocolate Toasted Coconut Cashews. It’s official - WE’RE GETTING A COSTCO MEMBERSHIP!!! (★★★★★)
Watch out Mariah Carey! I think we have a new contender for best pop holiday song… (★★★★•)
Are Hallmark and Lifetime holiday movies really that formulaic? Yes, yes they are. (★★★••)
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
Be kind, rewind. Duh!
