Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good week.
Welp, we saw Dune: Part Two and it was honestly one of the coolest movies I’ve ever seen. Seriously. The creative direction of each world is unreal and some of the more epic scenes gave me goosebumps.
Even if you’re not a sci-fi fan, go see it on the biggest screen you can.
While I go practice my Sardaukar throat singing, check out this week’s recs.
Grab your Dune popcorn bucket, add some extra butter (wink), and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
It’s official - the old DCEU1 is now dead. We watched Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and I would definitely describe it as the final nail in the coffin. It was bad…like really bad. Hopefully James Gunn will use Jason Momoa to his fullest and cast him as Lobo in the new DCU. (★★•••)
After taking a dinner break, we came back and watched The Phantom Of the Opera (my first time) and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! Something I knew: the songs slap. Something I didn’t know: Patrick Wilson can sing?! Good because he sure as hell couldn’t hold his own in the Aquaman sequel. (★★★••)
Like I mentioned, we saw Dune: Part Two at Alamo for movie night and it blew me away. It seriously might be the best sci-fi movie I’ve ever seen. Remember: Dune (the book) was published back in 1965 which means it came before most of the others (including Star Wars). I’m already looking forward for Denis Villeneuve’s plans for the third movie! (★★★★★)
Thanks to another recent trip to Costco, we picked up a few new snacks. First up, after seeing people lose their minds on TikTok, I finally found these Reese’s Frozen Fruit Banana Slices. Definitely top tier snacking but if I’m being honest…(★★★••)
…these Jojo’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Filled Bars were even better. Not a low-calorie snack but totally worth it. (★★★★•)
I popped into Local Harvest to grab some things for the weekend and finally decided to try Plus and Minus Zero Alcohol Pinot Grigio. It was light, fruity, and basically tasted the same. Definitely getting it again. (★★★••)
During last week’s Study Groop at Sump Coffee, I tried their Dark & Darker (Half cold brew, half nitro cold brew) and it hit the spot. It’ll be perfect for my summertime switch over to cold coffee. Pro tip: Pair it with their chocolate chip cookies topped with sea salt. (★★★★•)
I already wanted to go to Amsterdam but thanks to Frank “Frankey” de Ruwe and his street art, I might be ready to book a ticket. (★★★★•)
If you had small talk as much as me, then you might want to read this piece on how to master the art of small talk. (★★★••)
Writing a book is hard. After two failed attempts over the past decade, I finally landed on MY perfect concept for Fumbling Forward. Check out my first book update at fumblingbook.com to learn what made it just right. (★★★★•)
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
