Good morning, fam!
Hope you all had a good week.
Mine was teeny bit shorter than usual thanks to our friend’s bachelor party in Myrtle Beach. That means I started writing this poolside and just finished after (gasp!) 18 holes of golf!
All things considered, I didn’t do as bad as I thought.1 After seeing Dune: Part 2 last week, I was tempted to try the Arrakis sand walk through the bunkers but I didn’t want to get us kicked out.
While I go rub these sore feet, check out this week’s recs.
Grab your nine iron, hop in the golf cart, and let’s get into it.
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
I randomly stumbled across Six Memos for the Next Millennium at Barnes & Noble and after reading the back, couldn’t help but pick it up. TL;DR: Italian author and journalist Italo Calvino was working on six Harvard lectures sharing his six principles for writing and literature when he died. Some bits were a little denser than others, but it still makes for a short (and sweet) read. (★★★••)
While digging through Hulu, I found Extraordinary and watched season one this past week. This British show centers on a 25-year-old woman who lives in a world where you receive a random superpower once you reach your 18th birthday. The catch? She still doesn’t have her power. Imagine Fleabag meets Heroes and you’re just about there. (★★★••)
Thanks to my friend Jess, we started rewatching Schitt’s Creek and it reminded my why I loved it in the first place. There may be no better TV character than Moira Rose. Come at me, I dare you. (★★★★•)
Abby and I started watching The Office (U.K.) and I have to say I was a little underwhelmed. I know it started the whole phenomena, but it just isn’t as good. I think Ricky Gervais’s character has some amazing asides, but the American version is perfectly casted… (★★★••)
…which is why we started rewatching it. This time, we’re going with the Superfan Episodes. You get all of the original goodness you already loved plus some never-before-seen footage. We just finished the “The Dundies” episode :) (★★★★★)
For movie night, we didn’t have time to watch a full movie, so we started Taylor Swift The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version). Since it’s three and a half hours, we only made it through the first third. I know this is blasphemy, but as someone who wouldn’t describe themself as a “Swiftie”, I enjoyed it more than I thought. How could you not when the production value is that insanely high?! (★★★★•)2
What’s the first thing we did after touching town in Myrtle Beach? We went straight to Subway and tried their new Footlong Sidekicks, of course! Since we’re reasonable people, we passed on the Footlong Pretzel and went with the Footlong Churro and Footlong Cookie. They were…exactly what you’d expect from an airport Subway. (★★•••)
As part of our snack haul for the weekend, we picked up these Dirt Cake Oreos and we’ve almost plowed through all of them within 24 hours. They even have gummy worm sprinkles on top! (★★★••)
We’ve also been surviving on Cheez-Its with the greatest hits being White Cheddar Cheez-It Grooves, Extra Toasty Cheez-Its, and finally the Extra Crunchy Bold Cheddar. No complaints (other than a tiny tummy ache because I’m 35 and shouldn’t be eating Cheez-Its all day). (★★★••)
Need help finding your perfect coffee drink? Take this quiz from WaPo and they’ll spit out the best coffee for your palate. (★★★★•)
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
Thanks to a few clutch putts.
I’m definitely getting some hate mail for not giving this five stars…
