Good morning, fam!
While talking with my therapist this week, she asked if I had any hobbies I do just for myself. My response? I have plenty of them…but I share them in this newsletter I write every Saturday.
I think I might be missing the point, lol.
Anyway, enough about me!
Blow off that Goldeneye cartridge for N64, sneak yourself an extra bowl of Reese’s Puffs, and let’s get into it!
Here’s what I have for you this morning:
Whenever a new show gets announced, I have to check out the book (or comic) it’s based off of first. Since The Sandman just dropped on Netflix, I picked up the first volume at Apotheosis Comics. First impressions? I’m not entirely sure what’s going on, but apparently a lot of people feel this way reading it for the first time.
Reservation Dogs Season 2 just came out and it might be even better than the first season. It features all Indigenous writers, directors, and a mostly Indigenous North American cast while also being shot completely in Oklahoma. Bonus: it’s co-created by (you guessed it) Taika Waititi!1
I finally streamed Morbius with a few friends and it reinforces the fact that Sony should leave all Marvel movies to Marvel. Jared Leto did what he does best (i.e. play a creepy, misunderstood anti-hero), but not a whole lot else happened. Save this one for your next in-flight movie.
What do you get when you mix Super Smash Bros. with random Warner Brothers properties? MultiVersus just popped up online and you can play it now for free.2 In theory, it sounds cool, but it feels like a random cash grab after the crappy Space Jam sequel. On the bright side, you’ll soon be able to beat the crap out of each other as Rick and Morty, so I guess there’s that.
Thanks to a good friend of mine, I discovered one of the best hangover cures: Korean friend chicken. After we both had late nights out at karaoke bars, we met up at Chicken Seven3 for lunch and went to town on some amazing chicken wings (mine were boneless because I’m a child and refuse to work harder than I have to).
While grabbing lunch with some co-workers on Friday, the bartender asked, “Do you like Fresca?” to which I responded, “I don’t know what you’re going to say next, but I’m in!”4 She gave me the Finnish Long Drink, a new gin-based canned liquor from Finland that is now available in the states. I was so obsessed, I bought a few packs after work and will be stocking up for the rest of the summer. Hell, even Miles Teller, DJ Kygo, and PGA golfer Rickie Fowler are fans!
Ever wonder what the Backstreet Boys are up to now? Me too, which is why I saw them in concert for their DNA World Tour in St. Louis. Their choreo might have been a little rusty, but they can still wail like a bunch of teens. Backstreet is indeed back alright!
Do you want to break into tech? Ask yourself this question first.
It’s not officially the weekend until Daniel Craig reminds you it is on Twitter.
In corporate America, every day is “Bring Your Child to Work” Day.
You made it to the end! As a bonus, I’ll leave you with this.
Cheers,
Billy
I promise - this newsletter isn’t sponsored by Taika Waititi…unless you’re reading it, Taika. Have your people call my people.
Probably a good thing - I’m not sure I would pay more than a few bucks.
Named for their seven sauces, of which I plan to try all of them…eventually.
She was right :)
